Bank Holiday Weekends on Anglesey

The bank holiday weekend is nearly here, and it’s always a busy time for us at Arwel y Mor, and for Anglesey as a whole. There’s plenty to do on the island and it’s always packed. Here’s three of our favourite things to do during Bank Holiday Weekend on Anglesey.

Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris Castle was started in 1295, but is actually an unfinished castle where - after 35 years of building - construction work was abandoned by King Edward. Today it is still in remarkable condition, after surviving the civil war, and is a designated world heritage site (along with Conwy, Harlech & Caernarfon Castle).

Today, the castle is one of the leading tourist attractions on anglesey, with plenty of places to explore, walking guides, souvenir spots & places to eat a picnic.

Beaches on Anglesey
Anglesey has 25 beaches, and well over half of them are blue flag beaches (which is the highest award given to beach cleanliness). They vary from the developed (Beaumaris, Llandona, Newborough, Benllech, Amlwch & Red Wharf Bay) to the quiet & serene (Llandwyn Island). Watersports are popular with beach goers, with beaches dedicated to a number of different water activities including windsurfing.

Walking Anglesey
Anglesey is unique with a Anglesey Coastal Path, opened in June 2006. The path circumnavigates the island, taking in all the major sights, from Holyhead to Menai Bridge. It is a network of public rights of way, and includes stops at Trearddur Bay, Red Wharf bay, Moelfre amongst other areas of outstanding natural beauty, as well as historically significant sites such as Llangadwaladr church, Llanidan & Barclodiad y Gawres. The path also passes by some of Anglesey’s architecture including South Stack Lighthouse, Wylfa Power Station & Menai Bridge. All free, and whilst it would be a struggle to do in a day (all 124 miles of it), it’s certainly worth exploring a section, as you’re never sure what’s around the next corner!

If we have whetted your appetite, there’s plenty more to do on the island. Check out our Things to do in Beaumaris page for more things to do in Anglesey.
